1. Computer-Aided Instruction Tools For Architecture: Case Study Of Sinan Mosques
Tuğrul Yazar, Birgül Çolakoğlu
Pages 136 - 144
This paper introduces an ongoing research about the Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) tool which is based on the master thesis of Tuğrul Yazar from Yıldız Technical University (YTU) Faculty of Architecture Computational Design Graduate Program (BOM). The thesis is named “Expert Systems for Architectural Education: The Expert System of Sinan Mosques” and completed in 2003 under the supervision of Dr. Birgül Çolakoğlu. YTU Department of Computer Engineering supported this research by assigning the graduation project (student: Ali Murat Akkan) as programming the prototype software. The educational tool developed in this research aims to teach Sinan’s mosque architecture by visualizing hypothetical mosque designs.

2. Usage Of Aerated Concrete Construction Elements In Houses
Rüveyda Kömürlü, Hakkı Önel
Pages 145 - 158
An important percentage of houses are not economic, healthy and of good quality, and aerated concrete building system presents an alternative. Thus, this paper aims to face the question of how the projects of the mass housing projects should be prepared and built using aerated concrete construction elements in order to eliminate the above mentioned
problems and obtain quality results. This article displays the rules for design and application of aerated concrete construction elements in mass housing.
Usage of aerated concrete construction elements in mass housing is explored and rules for application are stated and defined under three major topics:
• Rules for the production of aerated concrete construction elements.
• Rules for architectural design process.
• Rules for the application of aerated concrete construction elements.
In the conclusion chapter, design, application and using aerated concrete construction elements and their advantages are listed according to the previous chapters.

3. Seating In Public Spaces And The Ergonomic Principles
Cem Doğan, Onur Altan
Pages 159 - 166
The human being is an integral part of his surroundings. The integration of the human being with his surroundings, physically brings out an activity. The activity that is derived from requirements, causes the creation of a product. In this aspect, every design product is a specialty of that particular design idea. For this special reason, the relationship between the person (as user of that space) and the product (seating element) provided for his use, has to be researched, to establish the correct design measurements and the best possible answer to his momentary situation and behaviour.
This is only possible by carefully examining that person’s (user of the product) structure and sufficiency, together with ergonomic and anthropometric specialties. When designing a seating element for a public space, we have to examine the individual as well as the public behaviour. Without careful consideration for local behaviour and characteristics, following the ergonomic and anthropometric rules of different socio-economic and cultural societies will only create products that are not suitable for our own socio-economic and cultural background. This problem can only be solved by establishing a special anthropometric data base for our country that could lead the way in design studies.

4. Explaining Local Economic Potentials By Using Sectoral Aggregations And Rural Development
İclal Dinçer
Pages 167 - 175
It is expected that regional development policies provide national development, and also decrease the gap between development level of each regions and urban-rural areas. However, it hasn’t been reduce this unbalanced development among the regions although regional development policies are built up with this approach.
Nowadays, the development projects on rural areas are getting more and more important. In this regard, experiences and attempts of European Union are based on rural development, rural regeneration, rural renaissance etc. and gives priority to the development of rural economy. Meanwhile, in the 9th National Development Plan, it is espoused to take measures which change according to the problems and the potentials of the regions in Turkey.
In this frame, the aim of this paper, to introduce local potential of the regions and to define aggregations of rural settlements on the four main sectors –agriculture, industry, service, and commerce- in 1990. Aggregations of sectors are an important tool to regenerate local economy. In this regard, main objectives; aggregations of manufacturing industry, commercial and service sectors are the engine of economy in the rural areas of shore provinces in Mediterranean, Marmara and Aegean Sea. On the other side, it is not only agriculture but also service sector is the engine of the economy in Eastern Anatolia.

5. Importance Of Maintenance In The Parks According To Users Satisfaction
Gökçen Firdevs Yücel
Pages 176 - 187
Maintenance responsibilities of parks include horticultural and turf maintenance (such as mowing, fertilizing), tree and shrub pruning, litter control, and maintenance of park roads, park furniture such as bins, seats, lighting fixtures and children playgrounds. The lack of maintenance can comes from lack of budget or unconvenient management and maintenance program. Park Maintenance Program should be done for effective park maintenace. A Park Maintenance Program should consist of park management, organization, maintenance responsibilities, labor requirements and standards, budget, maintenance plans of open areas, maintenance tips, a five-year implementation plan. Maintenance of park areas issues were analyzed through the surveys applied on the users of Maçka Park, Ulus Park and Zeytinburnu Park, which have been selected as the sample areas in three different regions of Istanbul. In each sample 200 surveys were carried out, which equals to 600 in sum. The collected data were analysed through SPSS (PC), a statistical analysis program and the Chi Square test was carried out to find significant differences. The findings of the study reveal
that maintenance of park areas affected the user satisfaction level with the park.
