The Production of Urban and Residential Language by Mixed-Use Mega Projects in �stanbu

This paper examines the housing projects that are classified as mixed-use mega projects or urban enclaves in the scholarly literature in order to understand how the notion of mixed-use is redefined and practiced, and in return, what is the architectural language they produce in housing design. The exploration posits �stanbul as the case and investigates a selection of projects that are large investment whirlpools and representative of the mixed-use practice in Turkey. Following an extensive literature review on both notions, a critical analysis settles the architectural components of this new urban formation highlighting their involvement to the architectural language in the field of housing. Derived from the theoretical framework, the projects are analyzed and classified by three main spatial components named as (1) podium and tower typology, (2) floor gardens and terrace flats, and (3) numerical plan coding.

Bu �al��ma, akademik yaz�nda karma kullan�m mega projeler ve kentsel kabuklar olarak da adland�rabilece�imiz konut projelerini inceleyerek, karma kullan�m olgusunun nas�l yeniden tan�mland�� ve uyguland��n�, ve neticesinde konut tasar�m�nda nas�l bir dil �retti�ini anlamaya �al��maktad�r. Ara�t�rma, �stanbul�u �al��ma alan� olarak �nermekte ve b�y�k yat�r�m �zneleri ve karma-kullan�m uygulamas�n�n T�rkiye�deki temsilcisi olabilecek projelerden bir se�kiyi incelemektedir. Belirtilen iki olgu �zerine kapsaml� bir akademik yaz�n analizi sonras�, mevcut uygulamalar bu yeni kent formunun ortaya koydu�u mimari ��elerin konut alan�na nas�l dahil oldu�u verilen �r�nler �zerinden analiz edilmektedir. Projeler �zerine y�r�t�len analiz teorik �er�eveden yola ��karak (1) podyum ve kule tipolojisi, (2) kat bah�eleri ve teras daireler ve (3) say�sal plan kodlamas� bi�iminde �� ana mekansal ��e ile derlenmektedir.
