Urban Development of Komotini: Mapping of Multiculturalism and Social Segregation of the Urban AreaChilal MechmetDepartment Of Planning And Regional Development, University Of Thessaly, Greece; Department Of Environmental Engineering, Democritus University Of Thrace, GreeceThe term of multiculturalism states that different social groups with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds coexist in a society and that these groups manage to live together. The first time this term is used in the U.S.A, Australia, England and Canada. Unfortunately, in all the heated discussion around the term no clear definition of the concept has yet emerged. Rosado (1996) states that: “Multiculturalism is a system of beliefs and behaviors that recognizes and respects the presence of all diverse groups in an organization or society, acknowledges and values their socio-cultural differences, and encourages and enables their continued contribution within an inclusive cultural context which empowers all within the organization or society”.
