Factors Affecting the Romani Residential Segregation: Aydoğdu Neighbourhood, Tekirdağ, TurkeyDuygu GökceDepartment of City and Regional Planning, Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Architecture, Isparta, TurkeyThe Romani residential segregation is a manifestation of a multidimensional social exclusion process. Residential segregation of a minority ethnic group reflects the social context. In this article, in the context of Turkey, the aim is to explain the factors influencing the Romani residential segregation through an Aydoğdu Romani neighbourhood case study and to evaluate the future of Romani housing. In total, 320 households were interviewed, and in-depth interviews were done with authorities from Romani associations and related institutions, and spatial analysis was carried out regarding the neighbourhood’s housing and settlement pattern to analyse the choices and constraints on housing of the Romani. Residential segregation of the Romani, although based on both choice and necessity, due to the practices on the demand side of the housing market and the limited resources of the households, tends to be a forced choice. Bir azınlık etnik grubun konut ayrışması, toplumsal bağlamın bir yansımasıdır. Bu nedenle makalede, Türkiye bağlamında, Tekirdağ Aydoğdu mahallesi örneği üzerinden Romanların konut ayrışmasını etkileyen faktörleri açıklamak ve bu bağlamda, Romanların konut kariyerinin geleceğini değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Romanların konut seçimi ve kısıtlamalarını analiz etmek için mahalledeki 320 hane ile anket yapılmış, Roman dernekleri ve ilgili kurumlardan yetkililerle derin görüşmeler yapılmış ve mahallenin konut ve yerleşim dokusuna ilişkin mekânsal analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Romanların konut ayrışmasının; hem gönüllülüğe hem de zorunluluğa dayanmakla birlikte, konut piyasasının arz tarafındaki uygulamalar ve hanehalkının sahip olduğu kısıtlı kaynaklar nedeniyle daha çok zorunlu bir tercih olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
